Story The locality where he and Capt. Dan Towner resided is elevated, and still called "Towner's Hill." He represented New Fairfield in the General Assembly in the years 1771-2, 1774, and again in 1790-1. He was an ardent patriot in the revolutionary times, and came into sharp conflict by reason thereof with some of his relatives, especially with two nephews, Benjamin and Wait Vaughn, sons of his sister Rebecca, who were as ardently on the Tory side. But after peace came, reconciliation took place between them. In 1793 he moved to Charlotte, VT. His occupation was principally surveying, for which he had good reputation abroad; the State of New York employing him to survey the region about Lake George. He took great pains for the education of his children, and four of his sons graduated in medicine.1
