Story He was a school Teacher in Marion Twp., Iowa c 1862 to 1874, purchased land in 1867, 60 acres near Marion, about 2 miles west. He was a democrat and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1911 he lived at 463 S. 11th Street, Marion, Iowa. Mordecai Edwards Bunting, was the 6th in order of birth in a family of ten(eleven?) children. He taught school for some time in Iowa and in 1862 was employed as a teacher of the school which he had attended. He taught for twelve consecutive winter terms in Marion Twp., receiving at first only twenty dollars per month, out of which salary he had to pay his board. during the vacation periods he was employed at farm work. In the fall of 1867 he purchased 160 acres of unimproved land near Marion, he at once commenced its development and as a result it became one of the most valuable farms of Linn County. It was on the 30th of November, 1865, that Mr. Bunting wedded Miss Lucy A. Ives, a daughter of Norman and Hannah (Gray) Ives, who were early settlers in this part of the state. Their five children were Effie M., m. Dr. F.E. Miller, of cedar Rapids, one child Isabella Miller; Hallie I., a retired farmer connected with the Iowa Motor Company of Cedar Rapids, m. Lydia Eidamiller; B. Laura, a vocalist and pianist of Sioux City; William E. employed by the Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad Company lived at Miles City, Montana; Norman E. became a draftsman in Chicago with the International Harvester company m. Mary June, two children Norma and Howard Jennings Bunting. When Mordecai retired from the farm and established his home in Marion in April of 1909 he was appointed City Weightmaster.
